 Opioids and Beaver County

The opioid epidemic continues to destroy lives across the US, and our county isn’t unaffected by this crisis. Here are three facts you should know about the opioid crisis in Beaver County.

1. The Opioid Epidemic has hit our county hard, but we are making progress.   Our highest rates of opioid overdose deaths were in 2015. Last year, 2018, showed a drastic decrease in overdose deaths by around 50% over 2017.

2. Narcan, a life-saving antidote that can reverse opioid overdoses, has played a huge role in this progress. 2017 showed a higher number of opioid overdoses receiving Narcan than in previous years.

3. Beaver County continues to have a standing order for Narcan, which means that anyone can access it at a pharmacy without a specific order from a doctor. Insurance may cover some, or all, of the cost. In addition, programs to distribute Narcan are being offered by Beaver County Behavioral Health (BCBH) and the District Attorney’s Office. For more information, contact BCBH at 724-847-6220.
